The Zaanse Schans is one of the highlights of the Netherlands.. Be part of a vibrant and stunning living and working community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. There is plenty to do all year round in Volendam, Holland’s best-known fishing village. Take a look in the handsome old harbor full of old Dutch ships and take a boat trip to Marken. Or have your photo taken wearing traditional Volendam clothes and learn more about Volendam in one of its museums.

If you're visiting Marken, you can't miss the little wooden houses. Residents built their homes on 'werven', artificially built hills. In this way, they prevented damage from floods.

The UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Beemster forms a unique polder area that shows how the Dutch have controlled the waters and used them to their advantage for centuries.

More than 400 years ago the Dutch succeeded to reclaim land in an area that was at the time still an inland sea using 43 windmills.  In those years, the lake of De Beemster changed into a beautiful landscape that lies 3.5 meters below sea level and is divided into a tight geometric pattern of squares and quadrants.

Breathtaking sunset over Grote Market in

Haarlem with its many historic buildings and beautiful old squares lies near the beach on the banks of the Spaarne river. It is wonderful to stroll through the narrow streets lined by the monumental buildings built by master Lieven de Key.

Visit extraordinary museums, such as the Frans Hals or Teylers Museum, and explore its countless cafés and restaurants. Haarlem is called the most Flemish city of the north with reason!
